under the weather...

Kelly woke up with a really bad stomach flu and was not able to make it out to the city for Remake's Holiday Gift Fair.  Our bummer should no be yours, so if your in the city stop on by remake lounge at the Crocker Galleria and shop local for all the holiday goodies!!

Kelly and I are really bummed that remake will be missing out on our donation to them today.  Because we don't think anyone else should suffer along with us, we will be donating 30% of all our online sales from this weekend (12.03 - 12.05) to the Remake Lounge!  Best of all the donation will help fund their very amazing public programs!!  Kelly and i will also be posting new lovely styles for you to shop over the next two days!

THURSDAY...remake holiday craft fair!

We are super stoked to be spending our day tomorrow in the city at the Remake Lounge Holiday Craft Fair!  The fair is being held at the lounge, conviently located in the Crocker Galleria (downtown san francisco).  30% of all proceeds we make will be donated back to the Remake Lounge to help fund their public programs, including a centrally-located comfy space with tools, materials, inspiration, and a community in which to work on your projects!  Come shop us and lots of other awesome locals tomorrow for all your gifting needs...

stencil party!

benny and I are super excited to announce that our next stencil party is in the city, sunday November 8th at Indie Mart!  We will be setting up a little stenciling station at our booth, where anyone will be able to come and decorate whatever goodies they want with a wide selection of benny's designs.  We will supply you with all the stencils & spray paint and you just bring your creativity and clothes. This is the perfect opportunity to renewed some old threads or make a sweet gift for your love.  Start gathering blank surfaces today!

bennykelly is now being carried at RAG (residents apparel gallery) co-op, in the city, and we couldn't be more excited!  RAG is San Francisco's oldest established clothing cooperative, showcasing over 70 locally designed and manufactured brands.  A cute little boutique in the heart of hayes valley, RAG is always a delightful peek at our neighbors unbelievable talent and the sales people are soo nice!  We are really proud to be selling there and hope you all will stop by the boutique and show some love!!

We had a fabulous time at Indie Mart and  it was one of our best shows yet!  Thanks soo much to everyone that came out and showed us some love!

fabric hunting...

We use a lot of recycled fabrics when we create our bennykelly garments, mainly because it is soo sustainable.  But we also do it because it makes each piece even more unique and individual!  Well our fabric bins have been running low, so kelly and I decided to hit up our favorite place to score used/leftover fabrics, SCRAP.

If you don't know SCRAP, listen up because you have been missing out!  SCRAP is the Scrounger's Center for Reusable Art Parts in San Francisco, CA.  Basically a creative reuse center, store and workshop space founded in 1976. Donations of high quality, low cost, re-usable materials such as textiles, paper, jewelry findings, wood, buttons and plastics are collected from businesses, institutions and individuals then sorted, displayed and distributed by SCRAP for artists, educational and community groups. Free materials and art activities are provided through their community outreach service.

We have been to a few creative reuse centers or depot but none have ever come close to the prices and selection that SCRAP supports.  Just look at all the fabric (we guess about 10 yards) and the sweet vintage pin cushion we got today for only $5!!  But what we love the best is that your purchase at SCRAP is technically a donation to a non-profit.  You are helping perpetuate a sustainable community while getting goodies you need/want.

Etsy Summer Tour

Etsy is on a summer tour and their next stop is San Francisco!! A small group of Etsy admins--Maria Thomas (CEO), Sara Hicks (VP of Product), Chad Dickerson (Chief Technology Officer), Jesse Hertzberg (Director of Business Development) and Carrington Williams (Director of Strategic Finance)--will be gathering to do a little meet and greet at Crossroads Cafe tomorrow.  So if you have always wanted to meet the people that make etsy possible and other local etsy sellers then stop on by, say hello and grab some snacks and drinks on etsy!

Cutter Photozine Issue 2: Leaving a Mark

Help Cutter Photozine celebrate the release of there second issue at SF Camerawork Gallery.  Cutter Photozine is a Bay Area-based documentary photo magazine dedicated to featuring people telling their own stories and documenting their own existence. We love starting our weekend off with art and always look forward to the first friday of the month for all the art opening awesomeness.  But this month the art seems to be arriving a day early, as thursday becomes the new friday!  Here are some awesome bay area art events that are sure to end your week in a pretty way.

Everything You Need Can Grow

Tomorrow at Rare Device you can check out the opening reception for Everything You Need you Can Grow.  The exhibit features 38 original illustrations by Christopher David Ryan in watercolor, ink and gouache, each 11 x 14 inches (28 x 35 cm). What makes this event stand out is that the exhibition will be accompanied by a book of the same title, which includes 38 full color, perfect bound pages.  A edition of 100 signed by the artist will be sold exclusively at Rare Device and on mylittleunderground.net.

You've Got Light in Your Eyes

For the last two years Boston's Meighan O’Toole has been blogging about contemporary art that she's passionate about. Over the course of that time, from her site, My Love For You Is A Stampede of Horses, she's interviewed, posted about, and reviewed a countless range of amazing exhibitions and a plethora of artists from around the globe.

YOU'VE GOT LIGHT IN YOUR EYES, O'Toole's first foray into curating a physical art exhibition. The show is a stellar assemblage of some of her favorite artists that have been featured on the site. With a grouping of almost two dozen reputable international artists displaying work, this show is sure to be a visual stunner that's not to be missed!(text taken from Needles & Pens website) So come on by tonight for the opening reception where you can meet and greet these very talented people!

The Home Show

FiveTen Studio and artists Linda Braz and Elyse Hochstadt present The Home Show, an exhibition featuring six Bay Area based artists working with the concept of ‘home’ defined by its origins in a historical and contemporary context.  The Home Show explores and expands the well-worn definitions that suggest a singular space or construct could identify one ideal designation equating the concept of home. Two of the participating artists explore origin myths and the psychological site of home, while others present vivid representations through a range of media.

CA Modern Art Gallery:  Alchemy

This is supposed to be an must see fashion show and overall awesome event hosted by Lost Profit and Missing Piece.  Besides great fashion you can make your own sock puppets, get your face painted, create balloon animals and help tattoo the already tattooed lady!  What more could you really want out of one night!

Trashion Show at SFSU

Help the Earth conscious students at SFSU celebrate Earth Day with a recycled fashion show, TRASHion!  The ECO Students Housing and students of REC 400 are challenging their fellow students to grab some trash and turn it into wearable fashion.  So if your in the area, stop by the university, check out the show and help spread the Earth love!
