Artwork By Nancy Spoelhof
This exhibit features a selection of Nancy Spoelhof’s bright, colorful figurative paintings. Spoelhof’s work explores ideas surrounding society. Composed of well-defined shapes—a la paper cut-out dolls—figures, sometimes in groups, sometimes solo, are almost abstracted in their simplicity; they’re funky stylized characters clad in layered, often striped dress and set in environments that emphasize and mimic their playful colors and patterns. The show will run from June 4 thru June 27th, with the opening reception tomorrow!
When: Thursday June 4th 6pm - 7:30pm

Teppei Ando: Blowing It
Blowing It is a portrait series by Oakland based artist Teppei Ando in medium of manipulated stains on clay-board. Each portrait represents the life of a character disconnected from an era in which progress happens rapidly within their lifetime yet somehow each remains distant from contributing to it. These are portraits of characters in their environment; an ocean of anxiety, despair and stress polluted by quick fixes and over stimulation. They've adapted, they socialize, they gather, and create their own caves away from the smudge culture. They're just people, in a state of existence in the dark liquid environment. The exhibit runs from June 1 thru June 30th.
